New United States ambassador to Australia Caroline Kennedy has flagged significant announcements about the AUKUS partnership with the US and United Kingdom will be made within weeks.

United States Ambassador to America Caroline Kennedy said the two countries were the “closest of allies”.When asked about the future of AUKUS, Kennedy said “there are many announcements that are going to be coming in coming weeks”. Albanese said he was looking forward with meeting Kennedy, whom he described as a “significant figure”.“The US alliance is our most important relationship and having Ambassador Kennedy here is appropriate given the status of our relationship.”Kennedy and Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman will open a new US embassy in the capital of Honiara during their trip, timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal in World War II.
