An emergency services cadet program is teaching juvenile offenders in Western Australia how to protect their communities.

Volunteer officers are running the six-week pilot program for young offenders at the Banksia Hill juvenile detention facility.

Cadets will be taught first aid and navigation, while also participating in mock land searches, firefighting drills, and rescue operations. The first run of the pilot program began in May, with organisers hoping to have it running three times a year. Image: News Corp Australia
