Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has insisted a controversial move blocking Aussies from returning from India will keep people safe.

Human Rights Watch called the move to jail Australians trying to return home “outrageous” in a statement released on Saturday.

“Any such limitations on that right due to public health grounds should be necessary and proportionate. The government should be looking for ways to safely quarantine Australians returning from India instead of focusing their efforts on prison sentences and harsh punishments for people who are facing desperate conditions and simply trying to return home.

“It’s very serious. More than 200,000 people have died, and there are more than 300,000 new cases a day. When national cabinet met they received the most up-to-date briefing from our Chief Medical Officers .” In a statement he said it was “critical” the Australian public health and quarantine systems were protected.

But lets in other travellers with CV19 - and blames the States.

Can we send John frydenburg to India to make this announcement?

They say 9000 “Aussies” in India wanting to come home. How many of the 9000 are Indian immigrants given Australian Citizenship who decided to return to India taking their Australian Pension with them? So easy to raise the flag when problems arise and decide to be Aussie again!

JoshFrydenberg ScottMorrisonMP GregHuntMP because none of your immediate family or anyone close to you, friend or acquaintance is in India or has Indian relations. Your incompetence on full display.

Because the federal government whose responsibility it is for quarantine in Australia have abdicated their duties because they're incompetent

It’s a violation of human rights

It is now ILLEGAL for Australians to enter Australia. That’ll do me.

Josh Frydenberg misplaced $60 billion as treasurer The man is a gronk

I can guarantee you that if any of his immediate family members were currently touristing in India, he would not have implemented this! JoshFrydenberg: Your failed quarantine system is the reason for your decision! FAIL!!!

indefensible decision

So much for quarantine being fit for purpose

Because if its one thing that we've learnt since this whole fiasco has started is that all the government cares about is our safety 😏

Wow Excellent Scotty! They Got 1 year and 2 months to be back. and Nothing Happens. Sometimes we need Tough Leadership. What happens if they are back and We have Lockdowns 5.0 6.0 7.0 ? Banks and Small Businesses will fail. We must Protect our Country!

This govt have no clue what they are doing.

There wasn't this treatment for the USA, UK, Europe when they were at their peaks. It can only be viewed as an admission of failure of policy.

Sure, for how long do we wanna stay shut down? A year? 2? 3? Who would want to invest here? 😂😂

So contrary to their earlier statements it clearly shows that their quarantine facilities are not good enough to isolate returning travellers and they are not able to keep to their promises

Well done.

Labor Andrews Gov. blocking Victorian's from coming home because of a few cases in NSW ✅ Liberal Fed Gov. blocking Australian's coming home from India due to 380,000 cases per day ❌ The outrage is obviously coming from blind sheep staunchly following political sides 🤦🏼‍♂️

It's the right decision

Announced. But. We all know this government couldn't deliver a pizza. They are just terrible. Fllod relief? Drought relief? $350 mil domestic violence funding? They can give Billions for a failed jet but can't do government programs. Worst gov ever It'd be cool if that were true, but it's not true. He's talking out of his ass again 😪 Pretty sure he later corrected himself to say its actually 10 bill over the forward estimates ? ie over 4 years, so 2.5 bill a year.
