Boris Johnson says there are grounds for "cautious optimism" that the worst of the severe flooding that has hit some parts of the UK is over but there is "no cause for complacency".

Britain's prime minister has been pressured to declare a national emergency, to free-up funding and resources. Severe flooding has hit parts of Yorkshire and the East Midlands last week, with areas around the River Don near Doncaster worst affected. Image: AP
