The jobless rate has risen, but so, too, has the rate of under-employment

A lift in the unemployment to its highest level since the middle of last year and growing evidence workers are struggling to get the hours they need has put pressure on the Reserve Bank of Australia to cut interest rates at its first meeting after Saturday's federal election.

The bureau also reported a lift in the under-employment rate, which reached 8.5 per cent, up 0.2 percentage points on the March result. The biggest falls were in advertising , trades and services and construction . Only four sectors showed any growth, with the best performed, education and training, up 11.9 per cent.

I'm now waiting for ScottMorrisonMP trying to spin this increase in unemployment by using his meaningless slogan: 'See look, more people are 'having a go'!'.
