Virgin Australia has hit back at claims that it stood down a large number of its ground crew earlier this week following the end of JobKeeper, calling the report "categorically false".

However in a statement to 9News this afternoon Virgin Australia has said none of their ground crew "are fully stood down" and that a majority of ground staff affected are "working close to their full normal hours."" is aware that the Transport Workers Union has filed a dispute with the Fair Work Commission in relation to approximately 170 of its ground staff," the spokesperson said.

"Two thirds of Virgin Australia's full time Ground crew are working their full normal hours. The remaining are at roughly 85 percent of their normal hours, except for a very small percent who are working reduced hours at their own election."
