Fumio Kishida says country may be unable to function if birthrate does not rise

Birthrates are declining in many developed countries, but in Japan the issue is particularly acute because it has the world’s second highest proportion of people aged 65 and over, after the tiny state of Monaco, according to World Bank data.“The number of births dropped below 800,000 last year, according to estimates,” Kishida told lawmakers in a policy address marking the start of a new parliament session on Monday.

“Japan is standing on the verge of whether we can continue to function as a society,” he said. “Focusing attention on policies regarding children and child-rearing is an issue that cannot wait and cannot be postponed.” The conservative leader said his policies – including launching the new children and families agency in April – were designed to support parents and ensure the “sustainability” of the world’s third largest economy.

Kishida added that he eventually wanted the government to double its spending on child-related programmes. “We must build a child-first social economy to reverse the [low] birthrate,” he said.

This biggest issue is China shrinking

The only solution for them is immigration

Patriarchy and old school conservative values aren't working in the 21 century.

Japan is moving into a liquidity trap. Demographics are a big part of the problem. 2023 is looking rather full of black storm clouds..

Japan's (Shinto/Buddhist) obsession with 'cleanliness' + (blood/race) purity is going to make this an impossible task.

governments seem to not understand it is them that are creating the problem. People can not afford children. Until you tackle all the costs of living not just government policy , nothing will change how can you afford children if you can not pay rent or the power bill.

...Says so the religious cult beliver PM, who vowed to decimate the Japanese for the foolish cult's policy.🤢 Japan politics UPFscandal corruption VoteRigging fools WhatsHappeningInJapan warfare poverty DoubleTax

Maybe they could change their immigration policy?

they have Japanese in Hawai Brazil n Peru just get them to move back to Japan

No mention of Japans restrictive immigration policy?

Maybe time to change their economic model along with us and the rest of the world, infinite growth in a finite environment was never going to be sustainable.
