The driver of a car that crashed and killed the son of former ACT opposition leader Bill Stefaniak has been jailed for five years.
Angela Smith pleaded guilty to causing a crash on Yarra Glen north of Woden on January 2, 2018 which killed her passenger Jozef Stefaniak. Mr Stefaniak was thrown from the car when it rolled, but Smith and another passenger ran from the scene before police arrived. The other passenger was initially charged over the fatal crash, but those charges were later dropped when it was discovered Smith had been driving.
In ACT Supreme Court today Justice Chrissa Loukas Karlsson said the fact Smith had run from the scene showed a callous attitude to the crash.More to come.
