Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has attempted to side-step questioning as to whether her deputy Jackie Trad will remain as treasurer going into the October state election. Speaking to Sky News host Laura Jayes on Wednesday, Premier Palaszczuk refused to rule out a reshuffle in the lead up to the election, saying “I will deal with each day as it comes”.
Treasurer Jackie Trad has been facing calls to resign after it was revealed she failed to declare her family’s purchase of an investment property which was expected to benefit financially from the Cross River Rail project. “As I’ve said in the past, it has had an impact on my government…. but Jackie’s getting on with her job,” she said. When pushed about the issue, Premier Palaszczuk said “of course” Ms Trad would keep the treasury job.
