Jacinta Nampijinpa Price has issued an impassioned plea to Aboriginal elders to condemn a vile attack on a 16-year-old girl in Alice Springs.
“I am utterly disturbed when I see this kind of conduct and behaviour. It’s been brought to my attention that this may be cultural payback. “We have a situation of crime on our streets in the Northern Territory and we ignore the fact that traditional culture plays into this because we’re all too scared.
Senator Price said there would be widespread outrage if the same incident had happened to a non-Indigenous girl outside of the NT. “Those responsible for the millions of dollars going to the services in my community, need to do their part to stop this kind of behaviour in our community. Enough is enough.”
“I met with the leadership group in Central Australia just two weeks ago and spoke to them and what their priorities were in terms of the expenditure of that money,” she said.
