There have been no new COVID-19 cases for five days and just 21 remain across New Zealand.

yesterday said Cabinet had agreed to remain at alert level two for another month, before reviewing whether it’s safe to move to level one on June 22.

“My party made it very clear we thought that. And the Prime Minister has actually admitted that at the Cabinet meeting – she said it. There was serious concerns from New Zealand First that this was taking too long and we should have got out of this into a better space as fast as possible.”Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is under pressure from within to lift lockdown measures quicker.

Parties sometimes take a different perspective and there needed to be a balanced approach to avoid yo-yoing back to lockdown, she added. Level one would still mean hand hygiene and border restrictions, but hospitality rules would be relaxed.

Jacinda is not under pressure to do anything. If she went to the polls right now the numbers supporting her would be embarrassing for those who don't.

Consumers start to spend again on fashion, personal care as lockdowns easeFigures collated by ANZ and Commonwealth Bank from their debit and credit cards show the advent of winter has prompted consumers to get off their lounges and down to the local shops for some retail therapy. Malls?! With stores like Kmart and Target full of cheap Made in China crap, shopping malls are just disappointing! How sad we ignoramuses are so quick to get back to distraction buying instead of prioritising the environment. Surely the mantra, 'buy this and then you'll be happy' has worn too thin in the face of impending catastrophe.
