Rowan Baxter had earlier regained the right to contact his children under an amended domestic violence order — but lost it just a week later over an alleged assault of his estranged wife. A source close to Baxter in recent months said he had been in counselling for several weeks before he doused petrol over Ms Clarke and their children Aaliyah, 6, Laianah, 4, and Trey, 3, and set them alight.

Ms Clarke obtained the DVO against Baxter after he allegedly kidnapped their eldest daughter on Boxing Day. The source told the ABC the 42-year-old had rejected his lawyer's advice in mediation and refused to sign a consent order offered by Hannah allowing him 165 days of custody a year.

This should of never happened he had breached the order of protection and was stalking her and the children . Didn’t want to sign any agreement for custody. So they should of been in protective custody. At least until after his court case.

Establishment of an Australian Civil Code is overdue and will go a long way to making both parents and children and everyone else aware their exact legal position defined by the State without lawyers and without all the horrible current warring due to our common- law legal system

As a survivor I've wondered if the govt could repurpose a facility like Christmas Island or Nauru for women and children to be safe from being found and to recuperate and to plan how they will rebuild their lives while in a supported environment

I cant watch the video in that story. He wasnt a loving father, he was a person who burnt his children alive. Those poor kids would have been absolutely terrified in their final moments and he watched on as his family died a horrible death.

The Federal Circuit Court set up by Howard and Brandis and stacked with like minded judiciary forces substantial and significant contact irrespective of past violence. The father child relationship is sacrosanct and more will die.
