Rana and her family have six months to leave Australia after the Iranian asylum seekers were placed on a final departure bridging visa. Now they're forced to rely on the generosity of friends and charities to survive.

It was a letter that shook Rana*, her husband and their two children and left them facing an uncertain future.Rana and her family have been evicted from their Sydney homeLast month Rana and her family received news from the Department of Home Affairs announcing they were being moved out of community detention and placed onto final departure bridging visas — giving them six months to leave the country.

But now the family faces an anxious wait as they can apply for another bridging visa when the six months is up — but there's no certainty the Government will approve it. The Department of Home Affairs said their new visas allowed them "to temporarily reside in the Australian community while they finalise their arrangement to leave Australia".

"Many of them really want to find jobs but trying to find a job during a recession is difficult — and with no local experience, people are finding it really tough.""They have no prior rental experience, there's no way for them to save up to be able to afford the bond to be able to rent."Charities are likely to shoulder the burden of supporting these new visa holders in the short term.

Australia needs to stop accepting asylum claims. Refugees can continue. Allowing asylum claims makes applying for visas very difficult for people from many countries, and the govt spends a lot of resources on trying to guess who is likely to come and “try their luck.”

Articles all written the same way. Referred to as ‘asylum seekers’ because their refugee claims are bogus failed on application and every appeal ‘Shocked’ because they expect to live off the taxpayer forever Deport

What a despicable country we have become. I wish Morrison and Co and the entire upper echelon of Home affairs public servants could be dumped in some country where they would be hunted and in fear of theirs lives. Then maybe they might live up to their legal obligations. Filth.

Well if you don’t have genuine claims, what do you expect
