With less than three weeks until election day and unprecedented turnout at pre-polling, it seems many Australians are eager to exercise their democratic right. Chief Political Reporter Kieran_Gilbert has more in today's 2600SkyNews. auspol ausvotes

compared to less than 67,000 at the last election.A number of MPs who were handing out how-to-vote cards at their pre-poll booths told me that lines were out the door of some venues – as voters waited to have their say at the first available opportunity.

After three years of internal division and strife – this premeditated voting intention could be a very bad sign for the Coalition, that many people made up their minds months ago and are now delivering on that. It’s these people and the undecided voters who will be the target of the major parties who are ramping up their advertising campaigns., other important players are just starting to beef up their advertising spend and it’s not just the major political parties.

Why is that important politically? Penalty rates are seen as a key driver of voting intentions among younger members of the electoral roll who are not yet rusted on to one political party or another.
