Tourism and Transport Forum CEO Margy Osmond has urged the federal government to set out a reopening timeline to give the tourism sector a reprieve from the ongoing border uncertainty.

The call comes after the Tourism and Transport Forum briefed the federal government on a $1.8 billion plan which it claims will help the sector stay afloat for the next 12 months. Stakeholders in the industry said a funding boost was needed to save about 71,000 jobs and 22,000 businesses, touting the introduction of a wage subsidy scheme. Ms Osmond said international border closures were a “tragedy” for hospitality and tourist attractions which rely on overseas revenue.

“For those businesses that are able to move into the domestic space, that’s great, and they are seeing an uptick in business – but the best description of that is it’s a bit patchy”. “This ongoing game of border roulette where we don’t know what the date is for an international reopening and we don’t have a confirmed calendar, is creating a whole range of problems. “It’s absolutely overdue for the National Cabinet and the federal government to give the industry a timetable.

This won't deter them, vulture capitalism is all they know. Morphing into another potatoe head.

Australia's ‘challenge’ going forward is preparing to reopen international borders | Sky News AustraliaAustralian Medical Association President Dr Omar Khorshid says the “biggest challenge” for Australia going forward is getting the health system and the country ready for the reopening of international borders. \n\n“I think the biggest challenge going forward is how we get Australia ready for opening our borders,” he said. \n\n“And that’s remembering we have a public hospital system right now that is bursting at the seams, it is overrun with really sick Australians who can’t get in the front door, they’re ramped in ambulances outside hospitals.\n\n“This is in the setting of no flu, we have record low numbers of flu patients, there’s no COVID.\n\n“Once we open those borders both those viruses will be coming into Australia and even with a vaccinated population, we have to be ready. \n\n“And that’s certainly going to be the AMA’s focus on advocacy with the government following this budget”. \n\nDr Khorshid told Sky News the AMA would also like to see some “specific funding” for Commonwealth-run quarantine facilities to help put an end to the “disruptive” outbreaks which occur every few weeks. Then the doctors better stop bickering. Look at the carry on by GPs about Covid vaccines. They wanted more money. They didn’t like the program. They wanted more money. Constant snipping. With these MUPPETS in charge yeah right !
