Social workers say 12 months on from bushfires that ripped through properties in south-west Victoria, some farmers are only just starting to talk about the effect of the disaster.

"That meant we would go out in the field and meet with them twice a week and be there for them on the ground, in a place that was easily accessible for them," she said. "They didn't have to change out of their farm clothes and jump in the car and come into town and we've been on the ground every week since six weeks after the fire started."
