The US says it is outraged by the Israeli airstrike that killed several aid workers delivering food to starving people in Gaza, declaring Israel’s military must “come clean” on what happened and demanding full accountability for the tragedy.
Amid global condemnation of the attack, US President Joe Biden called Andres today to tell him “he is grieving with the entire World Central Kitchen family,” vowed he would tell Israel “that humanitarian aid workers must be protected”.that his army had carried out the strike, describing it as “tragic” and “unintended”.
Noting that more than 200 aid workers have been killed in the war so far - making it one of the worst for aid workers in recent history - National Security Council coordinator John Kirby told reporters: “We were outraged to learn of an IDF strike that killed a number of civilian humanitarian workers yesterday from the World Central Kitchen, which has been relentless at working to get food to those who are hungry in Gaza, and quite frankly, around the world.
