Israel commences strikes on Rafah after rejecting ceasefire agreement

Hamas on Monday accepted a ceasefire proposal put forward by mediators Egypt and Qatar , but Israel refused to agree to the terms labelling the move a"ruse" against the Netanyahu government.

In the interim, Israel declared it would continue its direct assault on Rafah despite global calls for the attack to be withdrawn over humanitarian concerns for the 1.4 million Gazans taking refuge in the region as the rest of the Gaza Strip remains ravaged by war.
