A $160 million promise to connect a Queensland wind farm to the national power grid means the future of power will be cleaner and cheaper, according to conservationists.

The answer to cheaper and cleaner energy has been blowing in the wind for years — and finally the federal government has realised, green energy advocates say.The infrastructure is already under constructionthe federal government will foot the bill

to connect the Southern Renewable Energy Zone to the national electricity market is historic, according to the Queensland Conservation Council. "We're finally seeing some clarity from government on the fact that we are transitioning to renewables," council director Dave Copeman said. "For too long, it was a political football. And that just meant there was no certainty for investors.""Our power bills have gone up … but this decision says the future of power will be cleaner and cheaper," he said.

"There's no fuel price for wind or solar, it doesn't go up and down when you have international crises. The Macintyre wind farm precinct, which is one of two projects in the Southern Renewable Energy Zone, is expected to be operational on the Southern Downs in 2024.Watch

Hey ! Mr. ( Or Ms. ) A.B.C. could a future mention of this 'hot news' include a definitive number of wind turbines that equal a coal fired power station ?

Maybe but on those really hot days in Melbourne when the air is completely still and we wish we had even a small breath of air, will these turbines provide power. Not likely there is no wind.

Windpower requires 200x the land area of Nuclear.

No. Add batteries to make up the obvious lack of constant wind and it’s more expensive. Another direct assault on the poor and marginalised.

Most definitely

More ABC pro renewable propergander

Australian must all realise by now , the last decade of LNP governments esp under Scomo and Abbott had been a curse to the nation and Australian future. The environment crime they committed regressed Australian civility in all aspects esp environment.

Ha ha what a joke

Wind turbines have to be hooked up to the grid in case the wind stops blowing as they have to keep the blades spinning when the wind stops as non-moving blades will crush the ball bearings

Probably in the sun as well. But not while mega corps are after massive profits at the expense of all else. Should never have been privatized to start with.

It’s a part of the ‘grid of energy’ yes, and solar, and stored hydro, and wave, and on demand gas.

Look at the footprint. Probably get more power out of a semi trailer nuclear reactor, than 200 wind turbines, and it would be constant, and reliable.

Gee..the ABC will hate the truth in these comments. Be climbing up the wall. Quick.get to the silo and ask Sarah and Tony what to do

No! Ask Germany 🇩🇪 how there going?

But is it the right answer? Time will tell, but will there then be time to correct the mistakes that may have been made?

Go nuclear. Nuclear power. Nuclear warships and subs. Tactical nuclear weapons for deterrent.

👏 S 👏 O 👏 L 👏 A 👏 R 👏

Should all go in Teal and green electorates and they can worship at the base of the useless monstrosities

Yellow cake, the only answer...

Why isn't anyone talking about geothermal energy? Is it because for all their benefits, wind turbines, especially on the coast have a greater scope for profit in their construction, as opposed to drilling into a thermal pocket and connecting a turbine to a pipe?.

Another 🦕 trap article. So funny to read the old dears trying to cast shade on our future.

Not according to the places that rely on this crap in Europe.

No.

The announcement that the government will foot the bill . You mean the taxpayers as the gov has no money its ours or was till they put their hands in the till and has no one in gov no interest in the discarded AE farms as its too costly to clean them up as 80% goes to tips waste

Nuclear.

Globally wind farms produce power 30% of the time but 70% of that time is under 20% capacity. Most farms are at 95-100% capacity for only 350hrs/year. That’s 57 mins/day folks. A moped is cheap but try moving a bus load of passengers with one.

If there is all this spare solar on the network at times, that say it should be off peak But I guess for the sake of the $ that’s not going to happen eh?

petergunders It's good news but there needs to be energy storage (pumped hydro) to bridge windless days. A lot of work to be done to replace Queensland coal power. There is no such thing is cheap electricity from reliable, sustainable power generation QLDConservation

Ah wind! Good for 30% of its rated capacity for 30% of operational time.

No wind here today.

I’m waiting for twenty years on when they admit to their environmental damage from all these windmills around the world, shits going to hit the fan.

Going by what's happened world wide with power prices going up with some going back to coal you would think not. In saying that 24/7 generation is the problem obviously solar, wind and storage can't do that. The govts target is 80% renewable that 20% is still the problem.🤔

Sure it is...

Anything on Peter Fitz re the Audio tape? ANY REPORTING on this matter

Better fix this first

BS

won't be cheaper that's for sure...

lol there's more chance it's blowing from my coglioni

If you are talking about the hot air come out of AdamBandt then yes it is. I reality not so much.

Wind power is not only expensive but enviromentally a true nature killer. Their abc would truly approve this.

All we are saying is give Nukes a chance

“Green energy ADVOCATES say”

No

Hypothetically If wind and solar are not going to ever give us cheap and reliable energy that is sustainable: -what will be the signs that this is the case and -will the left always try and blame other reasons for expensive elec - leading us to poorer people and a poorer economy

No, you're getting Tangled Up in Green

Can we have some in the Teals and Green electorates?

The answer is blowing in the wind. First quoted by Peter, Paul and Mary

No these are not a good solution

It's looking like it.🧐

If we only look at a fraction of the problem, like ABC, MSM and government are, we're only going to come up with a fraction of the solution. ABC are full of lies. Just like Labor and big business.

If wind power is so good, construct a wind turbine at each ABC facility and disconnect from the grid. Permanently.

ABC/Lefties who say no to coal/gas or nuclear are like the drunk drive who the cops pull over & insist they aren't DWI & speed off, go through red-lights then crash & kill themselves, rather than having to admit they're drunk.

why does it take a national crisis for the sunburnt, windswept country known as Australia to think 'hey wait maybe we should use more renewables'

Climate change people worried about pollution, sure, pollute the beautiful landscapes with OPs mother's dildo stash

At any given time, about 30% of wind turbines are broken.

Nope.

Why beer from the bottle-o prices could increase by more than pints at the pubBrewers say production costs have hit an all-time high as they battle to keep their packaged products at an affordable price point. Is that because you have to pay for petrol to get to the bottl-o? Home brew time. We don’t need to be giving multinational beverage companies money for something that is so simple to brew at home. You know that a Labor government will keep increasing the tax on beer until only the rich can drink it. Brew at home and reduce your tax. You got to be drunk to pay those prices
