Iran has seized a South Korean tanker as tensions rise between the two nations.

The chemical ship has been captured by Iranian authorities in the Persian Gulf and the crew detained, including citizens from Indonesia, Vietnam and Myanmar. The countries have been at odds over funds frozen in South Korean banks over sanctions imposed by the US.

South Korea is demanding the tanker’s immediate release, meanwhile Iran has resumed uranium in Richmond at an underground facility, breaching a 2015 nuclear pact. United States President-elect Joe Biden has flagged he will attempt to re-join the deal after President Donald Trump pulled out during his term.
