casino is being investigated by the Federal Government's financial intelligence agency, AUSTRAC, over potentially serious breaches of anti-money laundering laws.

The troubled casino giant is already facing multiple investigations into its business practices in Australia. In October last year, AUSTRAC began an investigation into Crown Melbourne over potential breaches of money laundering laws.AUSTRAC's Regulatory Operations branch has now told the casino it has identified potential breaches of the same laws in its Perth operations. In the same statement, Crown said it had received legal advice indicating it had breached Victoria's Casino Control Act by allowing international gamblers to deposit funds with debit or credit cards.

The breach took place over four years, between 2012 and 2016, and involved $160 million in transactions. Crown said it had notified the royal commission about the breach and was conducting its own investigation into whether any other laws had been broken.
