A couple who invested in northern Queensland units can't afford their strata insurance which tripled in the past year, and they're not alone.

the risk of natural disasters, larger reinsurance costs, and subdued competition in northern Australia contributed to higher and increasing premiums compared with other parts of the country;

The Government has progressed some of the ACCC's interim recommendations and was exploring other potential solutions, but it is yet to detail them. "The chronic underspending by all levels of governments on mitigation and resilience programs is leaving many communities exposed," Insurance Council of Australia spokesman Campbell Fuller said.

The Nationals' Federal Member for Dawson, George Christensen, said the Government would consider including bushfire-prone areas.

I always said the insurance industry will force people to accept climate change. Unfortunately it's mum and dad voters that have to incur the pain while the uneducated become educated. My message to the mum and dad voters is remember what your voting for when you vote.
