The medieval church cloisters in the small Dutch city of Maastricht are an unlikely setting for Chinese Communist Party influence, writes China correspondent ErykBagshaw

They have been criticised for ideological prejudice, pushing an aggressive anti-China line, and fermenting a cold-war mentality. Internally, the mismatch of left, right, centrist MPs is not a unanimous voice, with disagreement over tactics and direction, but the purpose of the group is mostly to share experiences of the Chinese governments approach in each country.

He accuses former UK administrations of having a "kowtow policy", British industrialists of taking the "Chinese shilling" and says the Chinese government has bullied Australia as a warning to others: "this is what will happen to you". "When Germany walked into the Rhineland everybody sort of shrugged. They said 'they are their territories, they had a right to do it'. So when China decided to crack down on Hong Kong, there were protests and governments saying 'you should not be doing this' but next to nothing to follow that up.

"The point is right now China believes that protests are not problems because at the end of the day, governments are persuaded by money," says Duncan Smith.

Unlike Australia, New Zealand continues to have bilateral contact with its Chinese partners. On Wednesday it was lauded by China's Deputy Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen for "continuing to lead relations between China and Western countries".

ErykBagshaw 3) The AGE that we have no options but to let china incarcerate us in our own country and throws us in camps of our making! Fake media and their narrative have been outed as they try their best to remain relevant when all else has failed! The Chinese are stealing from everybody

ErykBagshaw 2) money from china and then voting against their own country for china, these people should be sent to jail for a very long time! All these years and centuries, all countries survived without china’s money buying/restoring their art and suddenly we are told by fake media like

ErykBagshaw 1)If the Chinese are truly so fond of European art then just take the money and say no politically! Keeps arts separate from politics. But the Chinese are not buying art with their money but trying to buy influence and necessarily votes! So if local government people have taken

ErykBagshaw Only the beginning of this article is about cloisters in my home town Maastricht and then it’s all about China against the rest of the world. What’s you point? Soon a Chinese mayor in Maastricht? I don’t get it.

ErykBagshaw China is so obviously trying to take over the world and nobody is willing to do anything about it. The US is imploding and if Trump gets re-elected, they will make their move. Otherwise, they keep up with being underhanded till Covid is over.
