Melbourne-based Carlo Golin has created the perfect backdrop for his work, with a little help from his publisher wife.

Carlo, an exhibiting artist for more than 30 years, in his light-filled dining room. His own work, Sleep, is on the mantel, a Geoff Nees papercut dominates the wall and, on the easel, is a collage by the late Hugh Kroll.An angled open fireplace warms both the dining and formal lounge rooms. The “Multi-lite” pendant light is by Gubi, from In Good Company.. A visual artist has made his family’s Edwardian home a perfect backdrop for his work, with a little help from his publisher wife.

Visual artist Carlo Golin, represented by Fletcher Arts, his wife Julie Pinkham, their daughter Anita, 17, and cavoodles Charlie and Mabel. Books overflow onto the desk in the family room, alongside a portrait of Julie, group managing director at Hardie Grant Publishing, that Carlo painted in 1991.The rear of the home opens to a large family room and kitchen. “I’m the main cook, and with Prahran Market minutes away, fish is regularly on the menu,” says Carlo.“In 2019, after 20 years here, we renovated.

“John Bastiras designed the banquet seating, and the ‘Fjord’ chair is by Moroso,” says Carlo. The “Semi Pendant” light is a design by Bonderup & Thorup.
