A Shark Bay osprey known as Pearl was seriously injured after being hit by a drone, prompting a warning for drone pilots from local wildlife carers.

A wildlife carer says Pearl the osprey is on the mend months after attacking a remote-controlled drone.Pearl and Alana will join one of Australia's largest sanctuaries with their recovery far from over.

Registered wildlife carer Janelle Ende said Pearl was in a "really bad way" and the bird's injuries were consistent with a drone strike."She wasn't able to move. I was having to hand-feed her." Despite the physical wounds, Ms Ende said Pearl's maternal instincts were unharmed and she had played a special role in the recovery of an orphaned osprey chick named Alana.Alana the osprey chick was brought into care after being rescued from the Swan River, south of Perth, just weeks after Pearl.Ms Ende said having an adult osprey with a young osprey had helped the younger bird develop vital skills that would allow it to survive independently from humans.
