Coalition looking to ‘beat the recession’ and ‘win the election’ with 2020-21 budget | Sky News AustraliaThe twin-goals the Morrison government hoped to achieve through the 2020-2021 budget have been realised according to The Australian’s Joe Kelly.\n\nMr Kelly said “the Australian reported the day after the budget last week that really it had two key objectives: the first was obviously to try and beat the recession and … the second objective is to try and help win the election”.\n\n“The government tried to ensure that there were winners across the board from this budget,” he said. \n\n“Looking at those Newspoll figures this morning you’d think that both Josh Frydenberg and Scott Morrison have got to be pretty happy”.\n\nThe latest Newspoll revealed 80 per cent of voters backed in the Morrison government’s income tax cuts for low and middle income earners with 79 per cent of Labor voters also backing the measure. \n\nMr Kelly acknowledged the high figure, noting it was an “extraordinary time”.\n\n'We are going through a one in 100-year health crisis,' he said. \n\n'We are going through a severe recession. \n\n'I think probably in times like this people are going to view the budget more on its merits than taking a partisan approach to it.\n\n“The problem for Anthony Albanese at the moment is while he is picking out these demographics, I don’t know whether that is sufficient to build a coalition of support to go on and win the election.' \n joekellyoz joekellyoz Beat the recession? Are you kidding. It’s the depression that will smash Captain Scomo and his Oztantic. joekellyoz A little early for that sort of LNP propaganda Rupert.
