Several fans have been quick to point out two areas of the wicket that are set to perfectly play into the hands of the Indian spinners.

The annoyed spectator was not alone in suggesting the Nagpur curators had chosen to create a pitch that would favour the Indian spinners.Another added: “Maybe because India are known to doctor pitches. This is just another step worse than ever before.”

Indian vice-captain KL Rahul has revealed the team is considering selecting three spinners for the opening match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the pitch appears to favour the slower bowlers. “The things that we’ve worked on is playing spin, we know how the pitches are going to be here in India and what to expect, so bearing that in mind we’ve practiced playing spin.

“I can’t really get a good gauge of it, I don’t think there’ll be a heap of bounce in the wicket I think for the seamers quite skiddy and maybe a bit of up and down movement as the game goes on,” he said. “If it is spinning from ball one then I think it’s about having plans in place to be proactive against the spinners you’ve got to be scoring runs because one will have your name on it if you just sit there and defend.”
