Tall poppy syndrome struck our brightest —but one man seemed immuneMaybe we have made our peace with the idea of success, of recognition. Or maybe Clive James was just exempt. Go out into the garden and see what a tall poppy is. A thing with a big head supported by almost nothing of substance. Yes, Australians do cut these down. But people of real talent, real achievement, not so much. It’s a conceit that Australia is alone in having a tall poppy syndrome. It’s widespread. Read any local newspaper across the Anglophone world and sooner or later you’ll find someone bemoaning it

Talking through the generations: Why Australia is known as a 'graveyard of languages'Migrant languages tend to disappear by the third generation. It's an alarming trend — and one these people are fighting. A majority of Australians would be speaking some variant of Gaelic if it made sense to do so, but clearly it doesn't. Only one language matters, the one that is largest, fastest growing, most adaptive & most global, currently that is what we call English & it is always evolving. Plenty of dead languages all around the world. Some languages have evolved to accomodate the science and culture of the times and some are stagnant and do not lead to innovation. Choose your studied language carefully... And make sure you can be HEARD with it...

Australia is 'almost obliged to give protection' to self-proclaimed spy Wang Liqiang | Sky News AustraliaFormer Labor Advisor Darrin Barnett says the government is “almost obliged to give protection” to self-proclaimed spy Wang Liqiang, despite the Daily Telegraph revealing he may have only been engaged in low level work, which would be of little use to Australia’s security agencies.\n\nAccording to senior members of the Australian Intelligence community it is “highly dubious” that Wang Liqiang, who claimed he was a high-level Chinese spy during a 60 Minutes interview, was “major player in the espionage space,” according to Sky News host and Daily Telegraph journalist Sharri Markson.\n\nMr Barnett said despite Wang's claims being seemingly debunked, Australia does have a responsibility to not send him back to China. \n\n“It is concerning if someone is using what is essentially a vexatious claim to become an Australian citizen, but we do have a sense of obligation to look after people and their humanitarian concerns,' he said. \n\nImage: Getty I don't call exposing Australian Chinese citizens trying to become treasonous Australian politicians working for China information of little use. I think the incident is being downplayed because of financial influence by China. Stop selling Australia, stop foriegn investment. Give him protection, Australia needs to stand firm in the values we believe. You can ask me to vow these values when I became a citizen while the leaders are playing with the values. Don’t be hypocrites
