A Christian minister with a surprising passion is causing unexpected conflict in NSW

Father Dave Smith preaches a message of peace from the pulpit - but one of his hobbies doesn't quite fit that image.

"I'd like to think I've become reasonably notorious over the years- both as a social activist and a priest, but also as a fighter," he told SBS News. What has proven a barrier to his life in the boxing ring, though, are regulatory authorities. The authority said it takes the safety of all boxers seriously, and it determined the 57-year-old's match against 32-year-old Jason MacGura was not safe.

Live: NSW Now: MP calls out hate speech after daughter 'harangued for being Muslim'MORNING BRIEFING: NSW Shadow Education Minister Jihad Dib has called out the normalisation of hate speech. Rob Oakeshott says he'll take Scott Morrison's phone call. It’s normal with local soccer clubs these days with racism just ask ClubPanania they are experts in it! Yet BankstownFA do nothing about it. Haters destroy our society. So 'kids' shit stirring 'kids', that has always been normal and has never been acceptable. Even if you are a clone of such infantile trolls they will confect a difference just to tease you over it, and if you let them affect you then it is you who is rewarding their sociopathy.

NSW MP Jihad Dib says daughter bullied for being Muslim and called 'disgusting'Jihad Dib says the rise in hate speech needs to be addressed after his 15-year-old daughter and another player were targetted with racial taunts during a weekend soccer match. It's taken 15 years to realise that kids say hurtful things, welcome to parenting. Condemn it sure, support your daughter, lodge a formal complaint, but don't go full simpleton and try to extrapolate your daughter's incident as some sinister evil of Australian society, it's not. Its nothing new, been happening for generations. Made me work harder and helped me learn who I wanted and should be friends with. Simple fact of life, winners, losers, bullied, bullys. Get over it, teach your kids the skills to master their life not blame everyone else for whatever happens to them. You particularly will never be free of it while Islam is the terrorist's favourite religion so fix that first.
