A Perth grandmother who police allege was bashed by a freed detainee has spoken to the immigration minister on the phone. Ninette Simons, 73, and her husband, 76-year-old Philip, were allegedly assaulted during a terrifying home invasion on April 16.

Perth grandmother speaks out on bashing by detainee. One of the accused, Majid Jamshidi Doukoshkan, was among more than 150 detainees released in November after the High Court ruled that indefinite detention is unlawful. The blowtorch has been turned on Labor, particularly Immigration Minister Andrew Giles and Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil, after it was revealed the government missed the chance to put Doukoshkan back behind bars two months before the violent home invasion.
