Investigators are examining the wreckage of the doomed Ethiopian Airlines plane but its charred condition makes identifying victims difficult, authorities say.

It may take weeks or months to identify all the victims of the Ethiopian Airlines disaster, who include a prize-winning author, a soccer official and a team of humanitarian workers.

Flight ET 302 came down in a field six minutes after takeoff from Addis Ababa for Nairobi on Sunday, creating a fireball in a crater. A pilot who saw the crash site minutes after the disaster told the AP the plane appeared to have"slid directly into the ground". He said it explained why rescue officials quickly sent bulldozers to begin digging out large pieces of the plane.
