Icare paid $235 million to a labour hire firm, including for office fit-out | LucyCormack

why state insurer icare paid a labour hire firm $235 million, including to lease and fit-out premium Sydney Harbour office space at its Kent St premises.

Mr Perrottet said he would seek an explanation for the labour and leasing contracts, and he was unaware of allegations icare occupied the office space to disguise the transaction from Treasury. The review was conducted following revelations of financial mismanagement and the underpayment of thousands of injured workers by up to $80 million.Mr Perrottet said he will consider independent oversight of the repayment of injured workers after it was revealed icare had only repaid 24 workers from a potential pool of 52,000 since 2019.

“I’m not opposed to [an] independent oversight in relation to this because I’m very much focused on making sure the integrity of the scheme is in place and there is faith in it.”Icare chief executive Richard Harding told estimates the $3.5 million spent on the repayment scheme was not unreasonable because 4000 claims had been reviewed at a cost of $900 each.Mr Perrottet added that icare had self-reported to the State Independent Regulatory Authority after discovering the underpayments.

A separate estimates hearing on Monday heard a $100,000 icare advertising campaign calling on underpaid injured workers had resulted in just 20 people coming forward.

emuwhisperer LucyCormack Literally stealing off injured workers.

LucyCormack So, I know that building. Most floors are 1500 sqm and face rents are $950-1000 gross. Even with no discounts (which a government client signing a 4 year lease would get), that's only in the ballpark of $20 million.
