Former Independent Commission Against Corruption counsel Geoffrey Watson says the payment of salaries of two personal staff of NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet by the scandal-ridden insurance body icare should be referred to ICAC.
The workers compensation scheme is funded by employers through premiums and is meant to be independent. Icare is part of the Treasurer’s portfolio. Earlier this month Mr Perrottet said "the icare team and the executive icare team do a superb job".On Thursday night Mr Perrottet accepted the resignation of Mr Freitas, who took responsibility for what he said was an administrative error. Mr Freitas had worked with Mr Perrottet for four years.
Mr Perrottet said Mr Yap left this role in July 2017 “with the intention of taking up a contract as a strategy manager with icare”. The administrative assistant worked as a team coordinator at icare from September 2017 to March 2018 then in July 2018.
