A Queensland business executive held for $1.5 million ransom after an employee opened a simple email has told how he took the second cyberattack on his company in five years 'personally'. 9News

company Langs Building Supplies, told 9news.com.au how they combated the May attack that shut down their headquarters.READ MORE:

Aaron Pritchard, Langs IT systems analyst, also thought he was in for a camping weekend away with his family before coming into ground zero. Mr Day theorises the attack, allegedly originating from the Netherlands, had been planned for a considerable amount of time beforehand, with the assailants able to infiltrate Langs' network via forged email to look like a message from a company partner.

Following the first cyberattack on Langs in 2016, Mr Day communicated with US-based cloud data company Rubrik, who used the Australian company as a case study to help create their own suite of targeted recovery and backup programs. "Once they realised, they weren't going to get they wanted, they turned from taunting us to threatening us with releasing our data … but we knew we were safe," Mr Day said.

Glad they took it personally because they didn't learn from the first instance. Irresponsible and stupid its really not that hard to defend from and resolve these attacks if you actually put in place appropriate measures.
