Julian Assange has refused to agree to his extradition to the US to face a computer hacking charge | NickdMiller

Julian Assange has refused to agree to his extradition to the US to face a computer hacking charge.

Thursday was the first day the US government has come to court to press its request for the WikiLeaks founder, 47, to be sent to face trial on American soil.District Judge Michael Snow told Assange that if he agreed to extradition he would not be able to change his mind, but it would “lead to an early resolution”.Assange was in court on video link from Belmarsh prison, where he is serving a 50-week sentence imposed on Wednesday for skipping bail in 2012.

Mr Brandon said whistleblower Chelsea Manning had provided WikiLeaks with a “vast amount” of classified documents relating to the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, Guantanamo Bay and from State Department diplomatic cables. Assange is likely to fight the charges, including on the grounds that he is protected by the same freedoms that protect American journalists when they are passed classified information by official contacts.

Julian Assange sentenced to 50 weeks in jailJulian Assange has been jailed for 50 weeks for breaching his bail by gaining asylum in the Ecuadorean embassy for seven years as he sought to evade sex charges in Sweden. What is going on with that? where has our support for an Australian Citizen been ”Jailed Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is about to begin another legal fight, this time to prevent extradition to the US where he fears he will be persecuted.” That “fear” is imaginary and in any event it is not a valid extradition objection i.e. it is doomed to fail. “Today was the first time a British court has heard detailed evidence of the concerns and fears that led Mr Assange to seek asylum” Those “concerns” and “fears” are delusional and/or in any event entirely normal fears among criminals who are facing justice. wikileaks
