It was when her son challenged his sister in the supermarket checkout line – about the existence of her middle name – that one mother I know felt her mind teeter the other day.“He was like, ‘No, your name’s not Ava’, and she’s like, ‘Yes, it is!’” says my friend of her kids, including her daughter whose middle name is in fact Ava.
But there’s the endless boredom and guilt I feel when I can’t stop scrolling on my phone while I’m at the park or watching YouTube videos of other people playing Bad Ice Cream at the behest of one of my kids. Far worse, is when my heart feels as though it’s being sand papered because my kids are desperate for my attention but I can’t give it to them because I’m still working while they’re at home.
