A local business owner says the state government's latest rejection of the new developer is another blow for the central Queensland island.

In another blow to the central Queensland tourism industry, the state's Resources Minister says the developer set to take over the leases of Great Keppel Island does not have the financial capability to deliver the proposed development.

Sunshine Coast-based developers Altum Property Group signed a contract to take over the lease in 2019. Sydney-based developer Tower Holdings has held the lease for the Great Keppel Island Resort since 2006.Altum director Rob McCready said the developer wanted to proceed with the project and was committed to working with the Queensland government and Tower Holdings."We're very disappointed, we've been working on the project now for two years and it's roadblock after roadblock," Mr McCready said.

"They're a bit too focused on 'What money do you have in your bank account?' versus 'Do you have the ability to see this succeed?'" he said.Mr McCready said the company had spent months negotiating with the Department of Resources to plan the early stages of a "glamping tent hotel" at Fisherman's Beach, where the old resort building was.

Government 'blindsided' after UNESCO recommends listing Great Barrier Reef as 'in danger'Australia will contest a draft recommendation to list the Great Barrier Reef as a world heritage site 'in danger' after United Nations body called for more government action on climate change. As opposed to taking action to try and address the risk to the Reef. Bold choice. Don't let the USA anywhere near it with their boat testing bomb wonder how much damage that did to the ocean Environment I wonder do they even think about the damage they do I hope UNESCO do get into a position to provide their own independent assessment.

Australia criticises United Nations warning that Great Barrier Reef is in dangerThe announcement could be the first step in a process that results in the reef losings its status as a World Heritage site. micksfoley We have a Trumpish PM who does not believe in climate change. All of the changes are documented. Coral bleaching, warmer water...what's the issue? Take action. What did the government expect? micksfoley Australia has just acquired a climate change denier for a Deputy PM The Barrier Reef has declined severely under the LNP Government. Sussan Ley needs to get in a wetsuit and go for a dive on the Reef. In my opinion her comments are fairy land stuff. micksfoley More needs to be down on land and at sea. Government can spend all the money that say they are but then they throw in few mines, polution, petrol boats etc etc. They need to stop talking and start listening.
