takes its central characters on a journey of self-examination. They gather at the Tranquillum House retreat under the watchful, almost sinister eye of self-help guru Masha Dmitrichenko , who tells them: “Part of the healing is finding the wound.”

“Some people might find therapy very helpful and get a lot out of it. A friend of mine the other day said, I’ve been going for 35 years and I never miss it. Because if I miss, I wind up doing things that I regret. But then, other people don’t really seem to get much value out of it or find it uncomfortable or awkward.

“Fortunately, where we were shooting in Byron Bay and the surrounding municipalities, was a fairly safe place to be at that point,” Shannon says. “And [initially] it was really just a matter of Asher and Grace and I getting together with [producer] Jonathan Levine and talking about the Marconi backstory.“We could meet outside in a yard and sit around with our scripts, and basically, not have too much anxiety about whether we were going to get each other sick or not,” he says.

“In a way it was kind of a healing experience, ironically, considering what the show is about, because the first four months of COVID-19 had been for me, very tough, being in New York City and not working. And to just get that opportunity to work and be somewhere so beautiful. I felt very fortunate.”

“I think they probably talk off set a lot about how it’s going or whatnot, but I think more than anything, it’s just experience that she brings. And she probably does a lot leading up to when it starts, that I wouldn’t really be aware of. I was really struck with just how deeply and thoroughly she was into the character Masha, all pretty much any time I was with her.”
