When Trent Robinson woke up just after 5am on Wednesday to a text message suggesting David Fifita was getting cold feet about joining the club, he let out a rueful chuckle.
After being left at the altar by one of the game’s most damaging front-rowers, Robinson spoke for the first time on Friday about Fifita’s stunning backflip to stay at the Titans next year, spurning a $3.3 million, four-year offer to move to Bondi Junction.
“It’s always disappointing, but when that happens you know it wasn’t right,” Robinson said. “You just end up going that wasn’t meant to be, and therefore it was the better position for us to be in, him not coming, and then move on. We still believe in the guys we’ve got. We’re going to hold our cool for the moment.”when asked last weekend about the Roosters poaching Fifita.
