'I am staggered': Former PM Turnbull says Porter should have refused anonymous payment of legal fees

Federal minister Christian Porter's decision to accept mystery funds to pay personal legal fees has been described as a "shocking affront to transparency" by his former boss.Christian Porter has declared an unknown donor helped pay his legal fees through a blind trust

The former attorney-general yesterday updated his register of members' interests to include the blind trust, and declared as a potential beneficiary of the 'Legal Services Trust' he had no access to information about its conduct or funding."This flies in the face of every principle of transparency and accountability in public life," the former prime minister told the ABC.

"Christian Porter has disclosed, in accordance with the requirements of parliamentarians on their register of interests," Mr Frydenberg told Sky News.That argument did not satisfy Mr Turnbull."If you walk in to the Liberal Party, you know, with a bag over your head, and a chaff bag full of cash and say 'I want to make this donation' they won't, they can't accept it.

The article did not name Mr Porter, but he publicly identified himself soon after, and strenuously denied the allegation.

Does anyone actually believe Porter doesn't know the identity of the money donor. It is funding going to a politician if the identity is unknown then the money should be refused. All donations regardless of amount should be disclosed to prevent possible conflict. LNP corruption?

Donor/s depositing cash into a Porter blind trust, isnt the problem, it's the 'who' has paid those monies; wealthy friend, a church, criminal syndicate or offshore regime ?, could be from anywhere. Imagine if revealed Gerry Harvey stumped up the money, since it's ours 🤔

Of course Porter knows the identity of the donor(s) but this way he can say he doesn't.

So a man who allegedly raped a woman, and has allegedly had countless other infractions of behaviour has allegedly rorted his position for financial gain. I must say I am shocked!
