South Sydney are seeking a replacement for Greg Inglis and a secret meeting could help deliver them James Roberts | SMHsport

One of James Roberts’ closest confidants secretly met with Wayne Bennett to express the NSW star’s desire to reunite with the supercoach at South Sydney as the replacement for Greg Inglis.

"This is not his greatest achievement," Bennett told nrl.com following Roberts' selection last year. "Not by a long shot. His greatest challenge was not to be rotting away in a jail somewhere. Or worse, terminating his own life. He was fighting a lot of demons." It’s understood Seibold’s relationship with Roberts, never as close as the one the centre shared with Bennett, has deteriorated. In last weekend’s loss to Canberra, Roberts was demoted to the interchange bench. Seibold already has a ready-made centre pairing of Jack Bird and Kotoni Staggs even without Roberts.
