John Howard to fly into 'must-win' Perth seat this week, help Liberal candidate Tom White recapture Curtin from teal independent Kate Chaney

In his first television interview, Mr White spoke exclusively with Sky News Australia about his plans to win the seat, which he says the Liberal Party needs back in the fold to secure government. “Obviously we have some work to do, the electorate sent us a very clear message that the Liberal Party has work to do to restore trust and credibility in Curtin. I’ve quit my job and put everything on the line to contest the election and I’m very optimistic that we’ve got a good shot at it,” he said.Mr White rejected suggestions that Peter Dutton’s plan to dump the 2030 Paris targets would hinder his chances in the seat.

The Coalition’s rejection of Labor’s plan to provide a 10 per cent production tax credit to companies producing critical minerals has been controversial in WA, with Liberal and National leaders at the state level embracing Labor’s proposal.
