In the past two weeks, Sydney has recorded 125 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19. This is more than each of the Crossroads and Thai Rock clusters. While far from being a second wave, the cluster that began in Avalon remains of concern. New infections have been acquired outside the northern beaches at pubs in Erskineville and Circular Quay, a workplace in the CBD and a cafe in Paddington. The potential for further transmission is real.
As we await the rollout of a vaccine, what interventions do we have in the toolkit to manage an outbreak like we’re witnessing in Sydney? Broadly speaking, there are two strategies. The first is an effective test-trace-isolate system. Clearly, this is working well in Sydney with record numbers of daily tests, reaching almost 70,000 on Christmas Eve. That essentially means that all infected people who get tested are isolated and so are unlikely to spread the virus.
The COVID outbreak in Sydney is at a delicate stage and the city is not yet out of the woods. Scenes of tightly packed revellers on Bronte Beach on Christmas Day and unmasked crowds in indoor suburban shopping centres on Boxing Day highlight the ongoing risk. While NSW Health authorities are clearly supportive of both movement restrictions and mask wearing, our view is that neither has yet been used optimally to complement their testing regime.

BurnetInstitute Aaaand all the LNP trolls come out to claim THEY know better

JennaPrice BurnetInstitute How was solitary confinement in Mexico?
BurnetInstitute It’s not rocket surgery
BurnetInstitute Was in Melbourne’s CBD today and I would say 30% of people outside are wearing masks despite no law mandating their use outside anymore.
BurnetInstitute And we still have them what's the medical studies behind that now with no community transmission!! Two months later
BurnetInstitute C63bittiği
BurnetInstitute Massive correlation effect in this study. Why is Vic being used as a case study to educate NSW? NSW has managed COVID orders of magnitude better than Vic. Hospitalisations, deaths, cases. Speed of contact tracing. Take your pick . NSW approach has been far more effective
CrabbBrendan BurnetInstitute Should it be noted in the piece that the mask study is based on photos taken by The Age?
BurnetInstitute COVID19nsw What science does the NSWCHO use for her guidance to the NSW Premier and Health Minister to continue to refuse making masks mandatory for the safety of the public?
BurnetInstitute Contact tracing far more effective than masks. Victorian tracing system miles behind NSW who are tracing within hours not days or weeks as was the case in Vic. Also with no curfews, travel limits (until recently in NSW).
BurnetInstitute All bullshit. Proven to be the flu and nothing more! Wake up stop watching msm and do your own research. Research The Great Reset by Klaus Schwab evil plan by the elites to control us all.
BurnetInstitute We have a behavioural vaccine that works and community transmission in NSW, yet GladysB is too afraid to use it. MakeMasksMandatory
BurnetInstitute Well done Victorians and DanielAndrewsMP

BurnetInstitute Fake news. Sydney controlling well without masks
twtrrr BurnetInstitute Put the 'opinion' tag at the beginning.
BurnetInstitute Arrrh the paper I use when wiping my arse at a building site........ Should be the third wave, you forgot to count The Crossroads when DanielAndrewsMP sent the virus up from Victoria......
BurnetInstitute Correlation doesn't equate to causation.
CrabbBrendan BurnetInstitute NSWHealth it ain't rocket science.
BurnetInstitute How does the SMH/Age science paper reporting policy interact with opinion pieces liammannix Kaubo? I can imagine hard (?impossible) to apply the policy as written.
BurnetInstitute Also coincided with better PPE for aged care and hospitals where the majority of cases in Victoria was being driven from
BurnetInstitute Had nothing to do with people being locked down in their houses 23 hours a day.
BurnetInstitute And here i was thinking infections decreased because winter ended🤷♂️ RIP821
BurnetInstitute
BurnetInstitute
BurnetInstitute It didn’t reduce the index
BurnetInstitute The Burnet Institute? The same institute funded by Bill Gates? Really? 🤨 We trusting their data are we?
BurnetInstitute Only being allowed out 1 hour a day had nothing to do with that rate of infection decreasing?
joyful_aroha BurnetInstitute and they saw that nearby New Zealand only had 25 deaths in the past year from the virus. Massive shutdown order and good compliance.
BurnetInstitute Can you say that louder please? SkyNewsAust and theheraldsun followers can't hear you.
SallyRMelb BurnetInstitute An opinion based on actual statistical analysis, how novel. 👏👏
BurnetInstitute And nothing else was different between the 43% masked and 97% masked periods? Lockdown restrictions were otherwise identical.
BurnetInstitute Nobody tell Adam Creighten....
