Perspective: Our cities will change, post-pandemic. No doubt about it. But as to how they will change, we have a choice. We can use this portal to change Sydney for the better, or for the worse. Now is the moment.

So often it's the rats and mice that change the face of history. The sword glint that triggers the battle that ends a dynasty. The tiff between distant cousins that starts a war that generates depression that starts another war without which there'd be no moon rockets, no Hollywood, no Tom Stoppard, no Westfield Bondi Junction. The undercooked bat stew in some far-flung futuropolis that changes the shape of every life and city on the planet for a year, maybe forever.

Cities have two essential traits; proximity and mobility. Proximity is why cities exist. Whether for fun or business, we like to nudge each other, eyeball each other, connect. Proximity enables us to specialise, so we don't all have to subsist but can trade – my new map-app for your Petrarchan sonnet. Mobility, providing choice and change, food and goods, enables this proximity. Both, though, are implicated in the spread of COVID-19.

First let's look at density. The D-word. It's tempting to make density the bogey here. Tempting to relapse into the bubble-based solipsism of suburban home, car commute and security office as the basic pattern of life.

I look at this cases histogram and conclude ... well obviously they fully opened up by April 7. But, NO! You guys are a big bundle of sticks! 🤣🤣🤣

zalisteggall It’ll be worse. We fuck everything else up in Australia these days, why not this too?

emfarrelly Nothing will change. That is because the Greater Sydney Commission planning panels are all staffed with real estate advisers. As an example, they have just approved a high density combination of aged care, senior living and primary school. NO Lessons have been learnt

Need strong, smart and independent leaders. Our choice

Build Back Better. Mass immigration population ponzi economics does not work. GDP per capita has gone -ve. Captured capitalism needs unwinding,. Time to end property malinvestment, break up oligopolies & monopolies, and focus on building a productive diverse economy.

One would think CBD real estate will have to become cheaper. It won't be able to support as many peope any more so won't be as productive or attractive.

Better in who’s eyes ? If it’s from a lefties point of view. It’s the opposite we need.

Everything will be the same...are we all going to buy Australian products instead of Chinese products ...😂😂...weren’t we all going to pay Holdens & save them as well. SMSissofunny

The “Lockdown” has got climate madmen excited. This is how they envisage the future.

carbon dioxide C02 is in fact an invisible gas to the human eye Your Pic is misleading

we can not build dense clusters of 45 fl unit tower blocks They r unsafe like Grenfell tower n they also spread infection faster like in Wuhan n New York We nee to ban high rise units over 10fl Developers build them to triple profit NOT for our benefit

Teachers are going to need to be prepared and ready to support students coming out of this traumatic period. Early successful intervention will help prevent small problems become bigger ones.

The race for a vaccine has nothing to do with health. The race for a vaccine is about Pharma stealing as much money as possible before the virus naturally dies out on its own (which is already happening). This is the biggest smash & grab job in history.

One giant car park: Sydney commuters urged to rethink their travelSydney's CBD will grind to a halt unless more than 80 per cent of people who previously used public transport in peak hours change their daily behaviour. This isn't up to commuters. Government and business need to lead here. If your boss tells you to come in to work, you go in to work.
