New data has revealed the severe impact of the coronavirus pandemic on Australians' lives and mental wellbeing - with more people reporting feeling lonely and less satisfied with life.

A survey conducted by the Australian National University asked 3,000 Australians about their lives since the onset of the pandemic, with about half saying they were more stressed while more than a quarter said their relationship was more challenging this year compared to 2020.

Recent data has found more Australians are experiencing loneliness and anxiety since the onset of COVID-19. Fears about transmitting the virus nearly tripled from 10.7 per cent in April to 30.8 per cent in August, the study found, with a significant increase in worry about the virus reported in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations.

“Australians are less satisfied with the direction of the country than at any time during the pandemic. They are also less confident in the federal, state and territory governments.” The AIHW two-yearly report included outcomes of ANUPoll surveys which found life satisfaction among Australians hit 6.5 out of 10 in August 2021 compared to 6.9 in January 2020. “Experience in Australia since the onset of COVID-19 shows that life satisfaction can quickly rebound – as it did in late 2020,” AIHW Deputy CEO Matthew James said.

Wonder how the people on the Submarines survive especially now with nuke subs they can stay under water longer, perhaps people here cld learn something

It’s hardly surprising we feel this way but there are 2 positive things: 1. Thousands of us have avoided being in hospital or ICU 2. The light’s at the end of the tunnel esp. when we hit 85%+ double vaccinated and really open up. Sad fact, we’ll go through cycles of this again

Better than alone in the ICU
