Fake news, Twitter strategies and social media bungles: An unprecedented age for Australian politics. 9News

Parties across the political divide are always striving to weaponise social media, with each election campaign seeing new strategies implemented in an ever-changing space.

Then on Wednesday, Liberal candidate Gurpal Singh, who was contesting the Victorian seat of Scullin, was forced to resign after claiming a man accused of raping his wife was the "real victim". By aggregating tweets by candidates and posts directed back at them, his team has been able to track the topics generating the most engagement.

"There's a feeling amongst campaigners that Twitter leans a little bit more left and Facebook a little bit more to the right," Prof. Bruns explained."That might a be a reason they're trying to direct people to their Facebook pages and away from paying attention to what's happening on Twitter." Conversations, comments, tweets and memes fly between users without corroboration and often without the parties' involvement at all."They're not, it's literally fake news.

Spotlight on fake Indigenous Australian art amid new calls for a clampdownLaws to stamp out the trade of phony Aboriginal art manufactured in China are no closer to fruition, with neither major party fully committing to tougher legislation if it wins government on May 18. It isn't Art, it is design and so long as there is no attempt at deception regarding the origins of the object then there is nothing wrong with it, except for the tackiness of it. Idiots buy rubbish and want the lowest price. Any ideas that apply racism in legislation would fail. Still it's a good joke when the idiot tourist notices 'made in China' bwhahahahaha Are the fabrics and tea towels hand painted? I doubt it.
