Research suggests employers should be concerned about the frequency - and quality - of their employees’ sexual activity.

Of course, it’s not just the quantity of sex that matters but also the quality, which is why the scholars further examined the extent to which employees orgasmed during sexual intercourse. Their conclusion was that it didn't matter whether the sex was great enough to warrant an orgasm. Even without one, the positive flow-on effects in the workplace were present the next day.

That influence, by the way, was reciprocal in a negative sense as well. The scholars found that when employees had a bad day at work, one characterised by pressure and frustration, they were far less likely to engage in sexual activity when they got home. “I’m not in the mood; I have a headache,” is clearly not just an excuse, especially not when it’s straight after work.

Up until now, there was little need – indeed, no need at all – for employers to be concerned about the frequency or quality of their employees’ sexual activity. But now that we know it’s something that impacts how happy and engaged people are at work, it’s much more difficult to ignore. Our influence as leaders extends much further than we realise.

Anyway, with the scholars finding that “employees experience a 5 per cent increase in mood at work the next day for each time they engage in sex the previous evening,” I realise now that maybe I, too, should ‘get some’ for myself. If only it weren’t for this work-induced headache…
