How pilot celebrated ‘textbook’ landing after mid-air emergency

The hero pilot who circled the skies above the NSW Hunter region for about three hours before landing the light aircraft on its belly on a wet runway has been praised by his passengers and police.An experienced pilot has remained humble as he was praised about the successful"wheels-up" landing of a light aircraft in the New South Wales Hunter region.

But minutes after taking off bound for Port Macquarie about 250 kilometres away, the 53-year-old reported an issue with the plane's landing gear. Just after midday, he successfully landed the aircraft on its belly, with the plane skidding along the wet runway before coming to a stop.A 65-year-old woman and 60-year-old man emerged seconds after landing.Speaking about the successful touchdown, Mr Schott was humble about the moment.
