New South Wales Opposition Leader Chris Minns has unveiled a"new approach" for the state's demerit points system in a bid to incentivise drivers to"do the right thing".
Under the state's existing system, demerit points stay on a driver's record for three years from the time an offence is committed before becoming inactive. But after a number of deaths already recorded this holiday period, we need a new approach," Mr Minns said. "It's time we put safety back at the centre of our road rules, not revenue raising. Under the Labor the rules are simple - drive safely, get a point back."
Had a laugh yesterday when Minns said his pokies policy would be 'evidence-based'. Didn't expect he would show up the very next day with a half-baked road safety policy supported by zero evidence. A pointless stunt. Road safety is not something for fools to tinker with.
