'What we do is create a safe space for LGBTQI+ fans at the football and a sense of belonging.'

But like many LGBTQI+ Australians, he’s faced difficulties reconciling his sexuality and love of Australian rules football.

“If an umpire or opposition player does something a supporter doesn’t like, they may choose to use homophobic language in an environment where there may be gay or lesbian people present. It makes you feel like less of a person, and in some ways, you don’t feel safe.” “We also have a real close camaraderie with all the other queer supporter groups across the AFL. We travel interstate and catch up with the other supporter groups.

“They could engage and meet people and have new friends, have a purpose that weekend, be part of a club and have an identity. “It all started with a very passionate and dedicated bunch of volunteers who did all the work off their own back,” he said. A 2015 study found 80 per cent of Australians involved in sport have witnessed homophobia, which led to the creation of The Pride in Sport Index, an instrument specifically designed to assess LGBTQI+ inclusion in Australian sport.

Mr Coniglio said while the virus “pretty much stalled” most of what was planned - including a large in-person International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia celebration - the Purple Bombers have been rallying together online.

Bring the asteroid now...

I want a safe space too.

'safe space' Switches off.

Hetrophobes

Good. I hope they keep promoting this. No more sports ball to distract the masses...

I remember when sport used to be about sport. Clearly an alt-right concept.

I oppose this ‘safe-space’ push. It is just one of the hallmarks of encroaching Marxism (and intellectuals have warned Australia to oppose this mentality when it arises). It’s toxic. It implies LGBTQI+ are in danger from others. Australia is very accepting (or at least tolerant)

Boring

Wow. “Segregated inclusiveness”

Skimpier girls outfits for the L's. More glory holes in the boys dunnies for the G's. B's will be happy with both. T's can wing it on the day and decide who they are what they enjoy but a good glory hole sess is always going to appealing. Massive sense of belonging.

Just go to the bloody footy and enjoy it ffs. Why do we have to make everything rainbow ally shit? No one except the woke Marxist care about what you get up to in your own private life, why does it have to get rammed down our throats?

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Omg! How pathetic 😤

member when pride was the big sin?

Do people really go to the footy and feel they have to announce their sexuality? Are they not there to support their sports team? Seriously..

They can't just sit with everyone else? Most people accept them now.

Inclusive segregation?
